White Rock says the B.C. Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs has approved Megan Knight’s withdrawal, clearing the way for her removal from the city’s 2026 mayoral ballot.
The Story
White Rock Mayor Megan Knight will no longer appear on the City of White Rock’s 2026 mayoral civic election ballot after the provincial government approved her withdrawal from the race.
In a statement issued this afternoon, the City of White Rock confirmed it received formal approval from the B.C. Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs in order to remove her name from the ballot.
With Knight withdrawn, only two mayoral candidates will appear on the Oct. 17 ballot: Susan Bains, a current city councillor with Together for White Rock, and realtor Chris Shields.
Knight, who was elected mayor in 2022, announced last week that she would run instead for the Conservative Party of British Columbia, seeking the MLA seat of Surrey South in the Oct. 24 provincial election.
The announcement came days after the City’s Sept. 18 deadline for municipal candidates to withdraw, which had initially left her name set to appear on both the municipal and provincial election ballots.
