After the Seattle Seahawks lost 34-17 to the Chicago Bears on Monday night, DeMarcus Lawrence said the team’s red-zone struggles were his responsibility.
The Story
The Seattle Seahawks suffered a 34-17 drubbing at the hands of the Chicago Bears on Monday night, a result that highlighted difficulties stopping Chicago once it reached the red zone.
Brady Henderson, writing on X (formerly Twitter), noted that Seattle’s defence has been effective overall, “allowing the fifth-fewest points in the NFL,” but that its red-zone numbers “say a completely different story.”
Henderson said the Seahawks are “last in red zone efficiency,” adding that Seattle allowed the Bears to score touchdowns on each of their four trips inside the 20-yard line.
When asked about the issue, DeMarcus Lawrence took accountability for the performance, telling Henderson it is his “responsibility to make sure it doesn’t happen.”
“I see they’re attacking my C gap. I have to heighten my awareness and play better football down there in the red zone. I’m man enough to sit up here and tell the world that I understand what’s going on … It’s my responsibility to make sure it doesn’t happen,” Lawrence said, via Henderson.
Seattle will next face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, after having lost three of its last four games.
