Red Wings continue Western road trip, head to Vancouver to face the Canucks Thursday

After a 4-3 shootout loss to the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday, the Detroit Red Wings travel north to play the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.

The Story

The Detroit Red Wings continue their Western road trip after falling 4-3 in a shootout to the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday, and they begin a three-game run in Canada with a matchup against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.

Vancouver enters the game with a 2-8-1 record after winning just 25 games last season and stumbling through what the preview describes as another rough start.

Detroit is also looking to turn its season around, holding a 3-3-3 record, but the preview says the Red Wings have the advantage in the head-to-head recent stretch, winning eight of the last ten meetings, including three straight heading into Thursday.

Defence is the centre of the preview’s matchup argument. It notes Detroit allowed just three total goals across three recent wins, while Vancouver’s defence has been its biggest problem.

Through 11 games, the preview says the Canucks have scored 33 goals (3.00 goals per game), which it describes as middle of the pack. By contrast, it says Vancouver has allowed 51 goals, 14 more than the next closest team, and that the team has been the league’s worst defensively.

The preview lists expected line combinations for Thursday (subject to change). It shows Sandin-Pellikka in the defensive grouping and Tarasov as the goaltender.
