Mission specialist Joshua Kutryk, currently on the ISS with SpaceX Crew-13, shared an image showing Metro Vancouver as he passed overhead on Oct. 13.
The Story
Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk, the mission specialist for SpaceX Crew-13, has shared a photo of Vancouver taken from the International Space Station, prompting a public reply from the City of Vancouver account.
Kutryk began his time in orbit on Oct. 1 when he entered the space station, and the Canadian Space Agency held a press conference with him on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Later that day, he posted an image depicting Metro Vancouver as he passed over.
The photo shows the region from the west, with the west at the bottom of the image. Buildings are difficult to make out, but several landmarks are identifiable, including BC Place near the middle of the frame.
Canada Place appears as a white shape extending into the blue of Burrard Inlet. The image also includes the ski runs on the North Shore Mountains, the Vancouver International Airport, Kingsway, and the Second Narrows Bridge.
On Facebook, the City of Vancouver account responded to the post with the comment, “Hello up there!”
Kutryk is serving as part of Expedition 75 and is expected to spend around six months on the ISS. The flight is described as the first time a Canadian Space Agency astronaut has been on the ISS since 2019 and the fourth time overall, and it is also the first time a Canadian has been part of a SpaceX Crew.
