Metrotown Eyewear broken into overnight; owner says $50,000+ in products stolen

The owner of Metrotown Eyewear in Burnaby says a break-in overnight on Oct. 15 involved shattered windows and a theft of $50,000+ in products.

The Story

A break-in at Metrotown Eyewear in Burnaby’s Metropolis at Metrotown occurred overnight on Thursday, October 15, according to the shop’s owner, Kelly Kwan.

Kwan posted a video of the theft on Instagram, showing a masked person dressed in black arriving at the store and smashing the shop’s front windows with a hammer before climbing through the broken window.

In the footage, the robber takes glasses from a display case and then uses the hammer to break into additional display cases further inside the store, placing the glasses into a bag.

In the Instagram caption, Kwan wrote that her “front entrance window and display cases were smashed” and that $50,000+ worth of items were taken.

She also said the break-in was the third time the store has been robbed since opening in late 2025.

Kwan said the immediate steps are repairing the store and keeping the business operating while the owner tries to identify the person responsible.

She asked that anyone with information reach out to her, adding that the items taken were mostly Cartier glasses and sunglasses and asking people to contact her if they see someone selling a large quantity.
