Survey: Most British Columbians oppose snap election as Conservatives edge ahead of BC NDP

A Leger survey says 57 per cent of respondents disapprove of Premier David Eby’s snap BC election while the Conservatives lead the BC NDP among decided voters.

The Story

A new Leger survey says most British Columbians oppose Premier David Eby’s decision to call a snap provincial general election, while also showing the Conservatives slightly ahead of the BC NDP.

The survey, conducted from Sept. 24 to 28, puts the Conservatives at 39 per cent support among decided voters, compared with 36 per cent for the BC NDP.

The BC Greens are at 13 per cent, while OneBC and CentreBC each have five per cent, with two per cent choosing another party or an independent.

In addition to the party support numbers, the survey finds 57 per cent of respondents disapprove of the early election timing, including 34 per cent who strongly disapprove, while 28 per cent approve.

Even among current BC NDP supporters, the survey reports opposition to the timing outweighs support, with 49 per cent disapproving and 39 per cent approving.

Disapproval is higher among Conservative supporters, at 63 per cent, and also high among Green supporters, at 60 per cent.

The survey says older British Columbians are particularly unhappy with the snap election call: among respondents aged 55 and older, 69 per cent disapprove, compared with 41 per cent among those aged 18 to 34.

It also finds the provincial vote is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, and comes one week after civic elections across B.C. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026.

Leger reports that Conservative support has declined since a June 2026 survey, dropping from 45 per cent to 39 per cent among decided voters, while BC NDP support fell from 41 per cent to 36 per cent. Over the same period, Green support increased from eight per cent to 13 per cent.

The survey’s region and demographics results include that, among decided voters in Metro Vancouver, the BC NDP has 39 per cent support, the Conservatives have 37 per cent, and the Greens have 12 per cent, while on Vancouver Island the two largest parties are tied at 37 per cent with the Greens at 16 per cent.

Leger says the survey includes 1,003 B.C. adult resident respondents and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
