B.C. Conservatives and NDP name candidates in Richmond ridings ahead of provincial vote

B.C. Conservatives have listed candidates in all four Richmond provincial ridings, while the NDP has publicly named contenders in two of those seats.

The Story

B.C. Conservatives have named their candidates for Richmond’s four provincial ridings for the upcoming election, while the NDP has publicly put forward candidates in two ridings so far.

For the NDP, Linda Li is announced as the candidate in Richmond-Bridgeport, the same riding she ran in during 2024.

Henry Yao is listed on Election BC’s website as the NDP candidate for Richmond Centre; the evidence says Yao held the seat for one term when it was called Richmond South Centre.

The evidence says Yao had originally planned to run in the municipal election for mayor, but dropped out at the last minute just before the provincial election was announced.

Two incumbent B.C. Conservative MLAs are running in Richmond, with Steve Kooner listed for Richmond-Queensborough and Teresa Wat for Richmond-Bridgeport.

The B.C. Conservative candidate for Richmond Centre is Sasha Peters, and the evidence says Gordon Zhang is the candidate for Richmond-Steveston.

The evidence also states that two-term Richmond-Steveston B.C. NDP MLA Kelly Greene is not seeking re-election.

In addition, the evidence says Lisa Phillips is running for city council under the Richmond Conservative banner in the municipal election and is also listed as the B.C. Conservative candidate for Vancouver South-Granville; her Richmond municipal nomination papers state she lives in Vancouver.

The evidence adds that Lawrence Chen, who is running for school trustee in both Richmond and Sechelt, is listed as the CanWest party’s candidate for Richmond Centre in the Oct. 24 election.
