RCMP say Highway 1 is closed westbound in Burnaby between Kensington Avenue and Sprott Street following a serious crash, with detours in place.

A section of Highway 1 in Burnaby is closed westbound following a serious crash early Wednesday morning, according to RCMP.
RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said the closure runs between Kensington Avenue and Sprott Street. He also said the westbound ramp from Kensington is closed as part of the response.
Traffic is being directed off at Kensington and returned to Highway 1 via Sprott, RCMP said. The measures are intended to move vehicles around the affected stretch while an investigation proceeds.
Kalanj made the announcement shortly before 6:30 a.m. DriveBC had posted photos of the crash shortly after midnight, indicating the collision occurred earlier in the night.
RCMP said the closure is expected to last three to four hours, though it could extend into the afternoon. As of 10:30 a.m., the closure was still in effect and DriveBC reported that an investigation is underway.
Police advised drivers to use an alternate route while the westbound portion of Highway 1 remains closed through Burnaby.
