Vancouver-South Granville MLA Brenda Bailey announced she will not seek re-election in 2026

Vancouver-South Granville is currently represented by NDP MLA Brenda Bailey, who announced in September that she will not run again in the 2026 provincial election.

The Story

Vancouver-South Granville is a provincial riding in the Metro Vancouver area of Vancouver.

The riding is currently represented by NDP MLA Brenda Bailey, who first took office in 2020. Bailey received 17,208 votes and won 64.31 per cent of the vote in the 2024 B.C. provincial election.

In September, Bailey announced she will not be running again in the upcoming election. She previously served as the province’s minister of jobs, economic development and innovation.

Bailey said she was diagnosed with early-stage treatable cancer in August and underwent surgery. She later said she is now cancer-free, and that she wants to focus on getting well and getting stronger.

Bailey said she will be joined in the riding by other NDP incumbents who have also said they will not seek re-election, including Ravi Kahlon, Lana Popham and Kelly Greene.

The 2026 provincial election was called as a snap election in September, with election day set for one week after the municipal elections. Voters will elect 93 Members of the Legislative Assembly to serve in the 44th B.C. Parliament, where 47 seats are needed for a majority.
