Fort St. John RCMP says remains found near Old Fort in June 2026 have been positively identified as Raymond Chalifoux, who went missing in 2015.
The Story
Eleven years after Raymond Chalifoux was reported missing, Fort St. John RCMP confirmed this week that remains found in June in the Peace Region of British Columbia have been positively identified as his.
RCMP says Chalifoux went missing after leaving Fort St. John Hospital on May 25, 2015. Police report he left against medical advice, and a large missing person investigation was launched at the time, but he was not located.
On June 8, 2026, human remains were found along the Peace River near Old Fort, B.C. RCMP and the BC Coroners Service completed an investigation of the area.
The Fort St. John RCMP says the BC Coroners Service informed the unit on Oct. 19 that the remains were those of Chalifoux.
“While this is not the outcome anyone hoped for, being able to identify Mr. Chalifoux and provide answers after more than 11 years brings some closure to a long-standing missing person investigation,” said Sgt. Ian Rissanen of the Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit.
Police say they do not believe any criminality was involved in Chalifoux’s death.
