Britney Spears marks “Britney” 25th anniversary with five previously unreleased songs

Legacy Recordings says a 25th Anniversary Edition of Britney will include two remixes and five previously unreleased tracks from 2001.

The Story

Legacy Recordings will release Britney (25th Anniversary Edition), an expanded reissue of Britney Spears’ 2001 album that originally went quadruple platinum in less than two months.

The collection includes two remixes and five previously unreleased songs from the era, described as Spears’ first new music since she posted on Instagram in 2024 that she would “never return to the music industry.”

The reissue also comes after Spears was released from a court conservatorship in 2021 that had controlled her life and money for nearly 14 years, and after February’s announcement that she had sold the rights to her music catalog to Primary Wave for an undisclosed sum.

The original album opens with a spoken-word declaration, followed by the single “I’m a Slave 4 U,” and moves between tracks written and produced with collaborators including The Neptunes as well as songs created with Max Martin and Rami Yacoub.

Several songs on Britney are listed as co-written by Spears on the original album, including “Lonely,” “Anticipating,” “Let Me Be,” “That’s Where You Take Me” and “Cinderella,” with the reissue’s archival material extending the album’s catalogue.

The five previously unreleased songs are described as including “She’ll Never Be Me,” co-written with Justin Timberlake, who also sings background; “Am I A Sinner”; “Right Now (Taste the Victory)”; “When I Say So”; and “My Big Secret,” described as featuring one of Spears’ strongest vocal performances on the album.
