President Donald Trump said Stephen Miller will replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff.
The Story
President Donald Trump said Friday that Stephen Miller was replacing Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff, following Republicans’ midterm defeat this week.
In a post on his social media platform, Trump praised Wiles and said she would continue working for his political organization. Wiles also released a statement on social media after Trump’s announcement.
“Serving President Trump in the White House has been the honor of a lifetime. I’m so proud to have been a part of what we’ve accomplished together from securing our border and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America First,” Wiles wrote. She added that her commitment to “the President and the mission” would not change.
Miller, a longtime adviser and a key architect of the administration’s hard-line immigration policies, currently serves as White House deputy chief of staff. The AP reported that he is most closely aligned with Trump’s immigration policy and rhetoric on immigration.
The AP reported that Wiles had served as chief of staff since earlier in Trump’s term and was the first woman to hold the post. Her departure comes shortly after the GOP lost control of Congress in the midterm elections on Tuesday.
The AP also reported that Wiles previously said she had no evidence of breast cancer after months of treatment, a diagnosis she went public with in March 2026.
Miller began working with Trump during the longshot 2016 presidential campaign as a speechwriter and previously worked as an aide to former U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., who later became Trump’s first attorney general.
