Polls are open across British Columbia for the 2026 municipal election, with voting set to close at 8 p.m. local time.
The Story
Voting is underway for the 2026 municipal election in British Columbia, with polling stations now open across the province.
Polls will remain open until 8 p.m. local time, and anyone who is in line before their polling station closes is still eligible to vote.
The election includes local races for mayors and municipal councillors, regional district directors, school board trustees and park boards in Vancouver.
It also includes elections for Cultus Lake and the Islands Trust.
Each local government in B.C. manages its own voting stations, and local governments provide information on when, where and how to vote.
To be eligible, a person must be a Canadian citizen and 18 years of age or older at the time they register or on general voting day.
Eligible voters must have been a resident of B.C. for at least six months immediately before they register to vote, and they must be a resident of the municipality or electoral area.
Electors must not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or another enactment, and they must not be otherwise disqualified by law.
The rules also provide that eligible electors living on a First Nation reserve can vote, and that eligible electors without a fixed address or who live in a tiny home or RV without a residential address may still register to vote as a resident elector in the local government they usually reside.
