Report: Seahawks QB Sam Darnold could miss second straight game vs. Raiders

Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold is out for Sunday’s game against Arizona and a report says he may also miss the Nov. 15 matchup with Las Vegas.

The Story

Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals due to quadriceps and rib injuries, and a report says he is also in danger of missing next week’s visit to the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 15.

The report attributes the potential extended absence to how Darnold was injured after Monday’s loss to the Chicago Bears, saying he cracked a rib on the second play of the game and later injured his quadriceps.

With Darnold sidelined, backup Drew Lock is set to start against Arizona despite an elbow injury that limited him in practice all week. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said the team has had to manage Lock’s practice workload, noting, “We’ve had to manage it,” and adding, “More precautionary than anything else, without getting into all the specifics, but it's something we've had to manage.”

Macdonald’s comments come as Seattle prepares for a quarterback uncertainty that also affects the supporting cast. The team has given third-string quarterback Jalen Milroe extra practice work, and Seattle’s offensive line is shorthanded with left tackle Charles Cross and guard Quenton Nelson ruled out against Arizona.

Seattle’s offence also struggled in the Monday loss, going 1-for-11 on third down and 1-for-4 in the red zone in a 34-17 defeat to Chicago. The Seahawks have recently had success against Arizona with Lock under centre, with Lock completing 73.1% of his passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in Seattle’s Week 2 win over the Cardinals.
