Daniel Cormier says referee Dan Miragliotta should be punished for a controversial decision in the UFC Vegas 123 headliner.
The Story
Daniel Cormier is calling for athletic commissions to take action against referee Dan Miragliotta following what he described as a game-changing mistake during the UFC Vegas 123 headliner.
In the main event, Tom Nolan won by TKO over Renato Moicano, and Miragliotta faced criticism after he stood both fighters back up while Moicano had control of Nolan’s back and was seeking a rear-naked choke.
Cormier said the stand-up decision directly affected the outcome, noting that Nolan then capitalized and secured a bonus-clinching win.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Cormier said, “Dan Miragliotta needs a reset,” adding that Miragliotta “should not be there” for “a show this weekend at the Apex” and also should not officiate “a show in New York City (UFC 334) where the heavyweight title will be on the line.”
Cormier argued that because the mistake appeared to have led to a change in the result, Miragliotta should be penalized. He said: “It is so clear that the mistake led to the change in the outcome that you have to have a penalty. Everybody else is held accountable. We’re all held accountable for our actions. Nobody should be above that, officials included.”
Cormier stressed that he is not trying to single out Miragliotta for abuse, saying: “This is not me just sh*tting on Dan Miragliotta. This is not me going at anyone; I don’t want to do that. But you’ve got to be held accountable for your actions when they’re bad.”
