Environment Canada meteorologist Chloe Katsademas says Metro Vancouver will likely see periods of heavy fog in the early morning, with conditions changing Thursday.
The Story
A ridge of high pressure over Vancouver is expected to keep the skies mostly sunny from higher elevations for the next few days, but Environment Canada meteorologist Chloe Katsademas said periods of heavy fog are likely at street level.
Katsademas said the foggiest conditions are expected in the early morning as it drifts in before burning off through the day, particularly on Tuesday (Oct. 5). She added that the fog could be thicker and a little moister, and at times there may be light drizzle from the fog.
While the fog may block out the sun at sea level, Katsademas said it is not associated with a weather system, and areas without fog should stay fairly sunny and stable. High temperatures are expected to reach about 16 C until Thursday, with overnight temperatures cooling to around 10 C.
Conditions are expected to begin shifting on Thursday as the edges of a system passing through Northern B.C. swing by Metro Vancouver and end the influence of the high-pressure ridge. Thursday may still be mostly sunny, but clouds are expected to arrive later in the day.
For Vancouver, the forecast calls for cloudy skies with a chance of showers into Friday. After the system moves on, Vancouver is expected to return to a more typical October pattern of a mix of sun and clouds during the day, with a high of about 15 C.
Katsademas said nights may be substantially cooler toward the weekend, with lows potentially dropping to around 6 C over weekend evenings, though she noted that part of the forecast is uncertain because it is not clear how far colder air will reach Vancouver.
