The Story

Ja Morant and Deni Avdija each scored 23 points as the Portland Trail Blazers stayed unbeaten by beating the Los Angeles Lakers 136-129 on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026.

Damian Lillard finished with 21 points and hit a decisive three-pointer with 43 seconds remaining. Jrue Holiday added 22 points for Portland, which entered the game perfect at 3-0 under new head coach Micah Nori and closed with a 15-8 run.

For the Lakers, Luka Doncic scored 41 points and recorded nine assists in what was Los Angeles’ first loss of the season. Austin Reaves had 26 points, and Sandro Mamukelashvili added 17.

Portland built an eight-point lead early in the fourth quarter before Doncic returned from the bench to lead a Lakers comeback and keep the game close late. Lillard and Avdija connected on consecutive threes in the final minutes, but Doncic and Ziaire Williams responded to maintain the tight margin.

Morant scored consecutive mid-range field goals to put Portland ahead by five, and Lillard’s late three sealed the win. The 36-year-old Lillard also had another strong night against the Lakers, despite missing four free throws, a rare occurrence.

Doncic made six three-pointers against Portland as part of another high-scoring performance following his 52-point game in Utah over the weekend. The Lakers also saw a notably committed defensive effort from Doncic, but Portland’s balanced offence and key baskets down the stretch proved decisive.
