A Maple Ridge resident says he discovered he won $1 million in the Oct. 9 Lotto Max draw after checking a ticket at a Burnaby gas station.
The Story
A Metro Vancouver man who was running errands in Burnaby says he learned he had won $1 million in the Oct. 9 Lotto Max draw after stopping to check his lottery ticket at an Esso station, according to a news release from the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.
The winner, identified as Mehrdad P., said he was on his way to pick up a lightbulb when he stopped at the Smart Stop in an Esso station on Lougheed Highway and Willingdon Avenue. He told his wife the news immediately after driving home, saying, “She said, ‘you are acting weird’ and I told her, ‘I am weird,'” and later adding that they confirmed the prize in the BCLC Lotto! App when they saw it was “$1 million!”
Mehrdad P. said he plans to use part of his Lotto Max winnings for a “dream holiday” for his family and called the experience hard to put into words: “I can’t describe it.”
The BCLC release also noted that Tuesday’s (Oct. 20) record Lotto Max jackpot is estimated at $90 million, with 20 Maxmillions prizes and 90 prizes of $100,000 added to the pot.
