BC Conservatives remove Victoria-Beacon Hill candidate Joachim Agou after social media posts

Interim BC Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson removed Victoria-Beacon Hill candidate Joachim Agou from the party on Thursday following complaints about his social media posts.

The Story

Interim BC Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson said Thursday that there is “no excuse” for the social media posts by Victoria-Beacon Hill candidate Joachim Agou.

Doerkson said he “will not tolerate” the posts and that the candidate is no longer a Conservative candidate, adding that “If elected, he will not serve in the Caucus.”

The posts came to light this week and were described as targeting Pakistani and Palestinian communities.

NDP candidate Amna Shah said the posts amounted to a display of “horrific racism.”

Agou has since deleted his X account and was removed from the BC Conservative website.

After the party’s decision, Agou declined to comment further, saying only, “I will look into it.”
