Meryl and Mick Baker, of Vancouver, will appear on Dragons’ Den Thursday at 8 p.m. to pitch their Nunorm and Spacer Mobility foot-health products.
The Story
Vancouver-based entrepreneurs Meryl and Mick Baker are scheduled to appear on Dragons’ Den Thursday at 8 p.m. to pitch their suite of foot-health products and minimalist shoes.
The couple runs Spacer Mobility and Nunorm, and their products include toe spacers; they began their entrepreneurship about eight years ago after Meryl experienced foot and knee pain.
They said their company got traction with a customer base that included CrossFitters, and that Spacer Mobility later expanded into a wider set of products.
Before their Dragons’ Den appearance, the Bakers said they had served more than 200,000 customers and generated over $15 million in lifetime sales.
The company is based in Vancouver, and the Bakers moved to West Van with their two children around a year ago.
The Bakers said most of their business is direct-to-consumer, and that they have five warehouses around the world producing their products.
They also said a key reason for appearing on the show is to increase their retail footprint in Canada, noting they have run the business for seven years without investors.
They described going on the show as outside their comfort zone, with Mick saying they had to practice their speech for the audition and that his leg was shaking during the on-camera pitch.
After their segment airs, Spacer Mobility and Nunorm products can be found online and in select stores including Health Essentials in Victoria, Little Foot Shoe Co. in Salmon Arm, and Sole Freedom in Ottawa.
