Houthi-linked officials say airstrikes on a village about 15 kilometres northeast of Sanaa killed at least 25 people and wounded 30 others.
The Story
Airstrikes hit homes in a village near Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Saturday, killing at least 25 people and wounding 30 others, according to a spokesman for Yemen’s Houthi-run Health Ministry.
The spokesman, Anees Alasbahi, said the strikes targeted al-Shariya, in a farming village located in Houthi-ruled territory about 15 kilometres (10 miles) northeast of Sanaa.
Alasbahi said the casualties were mostly women and children, and that civilians were still buried under rubble as rescuers searched for survivors.
He also said subsequent strikes targeted emergency workers as they tried to pull people out of damaged homes.
Video shown by Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV depicted staff carrying multiple children out of ambulances at a local hospital, along with wounded people being treated on stretchers.
Alasbahi said the death toll had risen from 22 earlier.
In southern Yemen, a separate airstrike on Friday in a market killed at least 30 people, according to Houthi officials, with both the Houthis and the Saudi-backed military blaming each other for that strike.
The renewed fighting comes after a yearslong truce reached in 2022 fell apart over the summer, with escalating battles between Iranian-backed Houthis who control Sanaa and Saudi-backed opponents based in the south and east.
