Vancouver police say a man was taken into custody after a woman near Atlin Street and East 29th Avenue woke up to find him in her bedroom.

The Story

A woman living in East Vancouver woke up to find an unknown man inside her bedroom and called police shortly before 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Police said the woman was at her home near Atlin Street and East 29th Avenue when she noticed the man going through her personal belongings. She pretended to be asleep until he left the room, locked her bedroom door, and called the VPD, police said.

Officers arrived and found the man on the second floor of the house. When officers tried to speak with him, police said he ran into a nearby bedroom and attempted to jump out a window.

Police said the man was taken into custody. They reported that at first he refused to identify himself, but they later located his identification and confirmed his identity.

The VPD said the accused is 48-year-old Daniel Joseph Campbell, of New Mexico. He has been charged with one count of break and enter and one count of obstructing a peace officer, and remains in custody, police said.
