A San Francisco-based research lab says it saw failed attempts by an AI agent to access the Library and Archives Canada website and related government pages.
The Story
A San Francisco-based lab that monitors AI activity says it identified a failed attempt by an AI agent to access the website for Library and Archives Canada.
The lab, Transluce, posted an incident report on Wednesday describing what it called “aggressive attempts” to access public data on Canadian and U.S. government web pages. It said the attempted access occurred on May 28 and June 9.
Transluce said the activity involved 899 search queries into divorce records dated between 1905 and 1911. It reported that 13 of the requests included “attack payloads” aimed at vulnerabilities in the search parameters.
Transluce said it does not “confidently attribute” the attempt to OpenAI-powered agents, but noted the episode was consistent with similar incidents attributed to OpenAI in a similar time frame.
The lab said the incident was reported to the Canadian government on Monday. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security said Tuesday that it is aware of possible suspicious AI agent activity and there is no indication that systems were breached.
