Keremeos RCMP ask for witnesses after single-car crash that killed 17-year-old

Keremeos RCMP are seeking witnesses after a single-car crash late Tuesday, Oct. 6, that sent a vehicle into the Similkameen River and resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl.

The Story

Keremeos RCMP are asking for the public’s help following a fatal single-car crash that occurred late Tuesday night, Oct. 6.

Police say they were called at about 11:30 p.m. to an area of River Road and Bridge Street after a car left the street and entered the Similkameen River.

Search and Rescue assisted emergency responders in rescuing all passengers from the vehicle. RCMP said everyone in the car was injured and was transported to hospital for treatment.

One passenger, a 17-year-old girl from Cawston, died at hospital.

RCMP said the investigation is still in its early stages and that alcohol is suspected to be a factor. A criminal investigation is ongoing.

S/Sgt. Dan Pollock said investigators are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and are asking anyone who witnessed events leading up to it, or who has relevant video footage, to contact police.
