Seahawks’ Rashid Shaheed misses practice again as knee status remains unresolved vs. Bears

Rashid Shaheed was listed with a knee injury and did not participate in Friday’s practice as Seattle prepares to host the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

The Story

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald delivered early optimism about Rashid Shaheed’s knee after Shaheed suffered the injury in Seattle’s 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 25, but Shaheed has yet to return to practice ahead of Monday night’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Shaheed remained sidelined for a second consecutive day on Friday, Oct. 30, marking another DNP on Seattle’s updated injury report. The receiver is still listed with a knee injury after leaving the Chiefs game, and his game status for Chicago remains unresolved.

Macdonald discussed Shaheed’s situation the day after Seattle’s win, saying, “Rashid, early returns are positive,” according to Seahawks.com’s John Boyle. The same report also noted that the encouraging early assessment did not include a guarantee that Shaheed would play against Chicago.

In the Oct. 25 contest, Shaheed was initially designated questionable to return before being ruled out and not appearing in the second half.

Shaheed’s absence for practice this week is separate from the status update for fellow receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who returned to full participation on Friday after a different designation on Thursday. With two straight practice absences, Seattle still has not ruled Shaheed out nor confirmed that he is ready to return.

Seattle’s injury decisions may affect more than its passing plans. Shaheed provides a speed element on offense and is also an established option in the return game; the Friday report notes that the adjustment after Shaheed exited against Kansas City included Tory Horton handling kickoff returns, returning two kicks for 60 yards. The team’s exact approach for Monday remains to be determined.

The Seahawks’ preparation continues with Saturday’s practice report and game-status designations before they host Chicago on Nov. 2. A DNP reflects non-participation in a particular practice, and the evidence provided indicates that two consecutive DNPs do not automatically rule a player out.
