Federal NDP Leader Avi Lewis raised concerns about Bill C-39, the Build Canada Strong Act, during an episode of The Big Story podcast released October 6, 2026.
Lewis discussed the omnibus legislation’s proposed changes to parts of the Canadian Labour Code and its plan to streamline projects described as being of “national interest.”
Critics, including Lewis in the podcast conversation, argue the bill could put environmental protection, Indigenous consultation and workers’ rights “all into limbo.”
The podcast also addressed Lewis’s view that Prime Minister Carney’s goals under the bill appear to align more with foreign investors than with Canadians.
