Seahawks’ “End Game” post after 20-3 win sparks backlash from Swifties online

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 20-3 on Sunday evening, and a Seahawks social media post referencing Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce drew sharp criticism from Swifties.

The Story

Seattle’s defence held the Kansas City Chiefs to 213 total yards of offence, with Travis Kelce accounting for 44 yards, in a 20-3 win described as taking place “in the Emerald City.”

After the victory, the Seahawks’ social media account posted an image featuring beaded “friendship bracelets” similar to ones worn by Swift fans at concerts. The caption referenced Swift’s music, with the post showing “Seahawks Win” on the bracelets and using the text “End Game,” which the source says is a reference to a Swift song from her 2017 album Reputation.

The post prompted a wave of online responses from Swifties. One person wrote on X, “Why do y’all think it’s okay to troll a team by using the spouse of an opposing player? This wouldn’t be acceptable if she wasn’t Taylor Swift. She deserves respect just like every other player’s spouse.”

Another reply said, “As far as I know, Taylor doesn't play on any team, so get that s*** outta your mouths already, you f***ing losers,” while another user commented, “oh bet. ACL tear before the season ends watch.”

Some critics also condemned the Seahawks’ team administration, with one person posting, “Your social media team is misogynistic trash,” and another saying, “I always knew you guys were classless! You guys are messing with the wrong fandom.”

Despite the backlash, other Swift fans said they viewed the post as humour rather than a personal attack, including one comment that said, “Idk I’m a swiftie and I thought it was funny. I’m not taking it as a slight to Taylor… she’s a cultural phenomenon and is going to always be brought into the conversation wherever there’s a connection.”

The source also reports that neither Kelce nor Swift publicly commented on the Seahawks’ post or on the reactions it received.

For at least some Swifties, the debate expanded beyond the original image, including one user suggesting the “trash talk” response was part of the game, writing, “As a Swiftie I feel the need to address this… understand that trash talk exists. It is not personal and it’s part of the game. This is not a jab directed at Taylor or Travis.”
