The Story
Blake Coleman scored twice as the Minnesota Wild defeated the Seattle Kraken 5-1 at Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday.
Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek each recorded a goal and an assist for Minnesota, which improved to 7-3-2. The Wild had lost their previous two games (0-1-1) as they began a five-game road trip. Jesper Wallstedt made 23 saves.
Seattle’s Berkly Catton scored for the Kraken, who fell to 7-4-1. The Kraken had won their previous two games and earned points in six of their past seven (5-1-1). Joey Daccord stopped 31 shots.
Kaprizov put Minnesota ahead 26 seconds into the first period on a breakaway, skating through the left circle past Seattle defenseman Vince Dunn before chipping a backhand in front.
Catton answered at 10:13, one second after a Seattle power play ended, finishing a sequence that started with Brandon Montour at the point, moved to Kaapo Kakko at the left post, and returned to Catton in the right circle. Catton’s wrist shot struck Wallstedt’s shoulder, bounced off the post and went in.
Coleman made it 2-1 at 2:11 of the second period, 11 seconds after his penalty ended, scoring on another breakaway after a bad Seattle change. He snapped the puck off the right post and in.
Olli Maatta increased the lead to 3-1 at 11:33 of the second period with a wrist shot from the point through traffic past Daccord’s glove.
Eriksson Ek made it 4-1 at 13:00, winning a race to Matt Boldy’s rebound. He partially fanned the puck, but it popped over Daccord and floated over the goal line.
Coleman capped the scoring with an empty-net goal at 16:24 of the third period to complete the 5-1 final.
