The VPD says 55-year-old Raymond Desorcy was arrested on two Canada-wide warrants after pleading guilty in the 2023 crash death of 18-year-old Dana Oh.
The Story
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has arrested 55-year-old Raymond Desorcy, wanted on two Canada-wide warrants in connection with a crash that killed an 18-year-old in Vancouver.
Officers had been looking for Desorcy since last December. The VPD said Desorcy, a chronic offender, pleaded guilty to Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death following the 2023 crash death of Dana Oh.
Court evidence heard after the guilty plea indicated Desorcy was distracted by his cell phone and speeding on Oct. 7, 2023, when he drove through a red light at Granville Street and King Edward Avenue and collided with a BMW sedan turning left.
The impact caused catastrophic injuries to Oh, who was in the back seat of the BMW. The VPD said she could only be extricated after the “jaws of life” were used to remove the vehicle’s side doors, and she died six days later in hospital.
Another passenger in the BMW suffered serious injuries.
The VPD said Desorcy failed to appear for a sentencing hearing in 2025, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Just before dawn on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, the VPD Fugitive Team located and arrested Desorcy without incident as he left a coffee shop near Granville Street and West Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver.
The VPD said that after his guilty plea was entered, the court heard evidence about the circumstances leading to the collision. During his arrest, police alleged Desorcy was in possession of non-prescription drugs and has since been charged with breach of a release order.
Desorcy remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing. The VPD said he has a lifetime firearms prohibition and more than 30 criminal convictions dating back to 1989, including convictions for impaired driving, assault, break and enter, robbery and uttering threats, and that he was found guilty of seven counts of robbery in Edmonton in 2014 and released from prison in 2020.
