Creston RCMP say a fully submerged vehicle found in the Kootenay River is believed to be connected to the 2004 disappearance of George Franklin Davis.
The Story
Creston RCMP have retrieved a fully submerged vehicle from the Kootenay River that is believed to be connected to a 2004 missing person investigation.
George Franklin Davis was reported missing in July 2004, and a volunteer search and recovery dive team had been helping his family search for more than 20 years.
On Sept. 24, the dive team found the vehicle at a location known as the “Old Ferry Landing.”
The team found human remains inside the vehicle. On Sept. 28, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team recovered the vehicle from the river.
Investigators say the vehicle’s description and license plate match the details reported for Davis, and police believe the remains are likely to be Davis based on that information, though they have not been positively confirmed.
Forensic analysis and confirmation will be handled by the BC Coroners Service, and investigators said no foul play is suspected in Davis’s death. The case remains ongoing while forensic testing is conducted.
