A Shanghai-founded Lanzhou beef noodle chain is set to soft-open a Richmond location replacing the former Pepper Lunch at the Central in Garden City.
The Story
Mr. Noodle Chen, a Lanzhou beef noodle restaurant chain known for freshly hand-pulled noodles, is soft-opening in Richmond on Monday, Sept. 28.
The restaurant is taking over the former Pepper Lunch space at the Central in the Garden City plaza on McClelland Road. The address is #1625-4771 McClelland Rd.
The menu centres on Lanzhou beef noodle soup and dry chili oil noodles, with the chain’s broth made from an eight-hour slow simmer of bone broth. The restaurant also offers halal beef, according to the listing.
For noodle lovers, each noodle soup dish includes a choice of eight noodle shapes, ranging from 1 millimetre to 35 millimetre wide noodles. The kitchen uses an open layout, with chefs hand pulling each order of noodle soup.
Dishes listed for the Richmond location include appetizers such as Chinese tea egg, Lanzhou pickles and spicy tofu skin salad, along with desserts including milk-skin yogurt and jasmine tea jelly with red bean and milk. The menu also lists items such as braised beef crispy burger and grilled beef short rib and lamb skewers.
The restaurant can seat up to 62 people at once and will be open daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the soft opening period.
Mr. Noodle Chen was founded in Shanghai in 2020 and, beyond China, has expanded to more than 300 locations across Germany and Austria. The Richmond site is described as the chain’s first North American location.
