BMO’s Blue Rewards has named Porter Airlines its preferred airline partner, allowing members to earn enhanced points via VIPorter.
The Story
Canadians flying with Porter Airlines can now earn faster rewards toward future trips through a new partnership with BMO’s Blue Rewards loyalty program.
The companies announced that Porter is now the preferred airline partner of Blue Rewards. The arrangement allows members who link their Blue Rewards and VIPorter accounts to earn VIPorter points more quickly, along with bonus Blue Points when booking eligible Porter flights through Blue Rewards Travel.
Porter and Blue Rewards both previously operated under different loyalty structures, with Blue Rewards described as a rebranded version of Air Miles that launched in January. Under the new setup, the programs include specific welcome and earning incentives for linked accounts.
New Blue Rewards members who set up VIPorter and Blue Rewards accounts are eligible for a welcome bonus of 500 Blue Points and 500 VIPorter points, according to the announcement.
For ongoing travel, linked members can earn additional VIPorter points every time they fly with Porter. Those who use an eligible linked BMO payment card earn one extra VIPorter point for every $1 spent on Porter flights, while other linked members earn one extra point for every $2 spent.
Members booking through Blue Rewards Travel can also receive additional bonus Blue Points based on the flight value, the announcement stated. Eligible flights are listed as offering 1,000 bonus Blue Points for flights valued up to $350, 3,750 bonus Blue Points for flights valued from $351 to $450, and 7,500 bonus Blue Points for flights valued at more than $451.
The partnership also includes a points-conversion feature planned for a later rollout. In the coming months, Blue Rewards said members will be able to swap Blue Points for VIPorter points at a two-to-one rate, meaning 2,000 Blue Points could be exchanged for 1,000 VIPorter points for use toward a future flight.
Blue Rewards also highlighted that the program already has partnerships with retailers across Canada, naming Dollarama, Sephora and Walmart as examples of existing earning options alongside the new Porter affiliation.
