RCMP issued tickets to two men who drove onto North Vancouver’s Crosscut Bridge on Sept. 17, an access-restricted pedestrian and cycling bridge.

Two men in their 20s were ticketed by RCMP after they drove vehicles onto North Vancouver’s Crosscut Bridge on Sept. 17, where entry is restricted to pedestrians and cyclists.
Police were called to the bridge at about 9 p.m. and found both drivers operating cars across the span, which carries traffic over Highway 1. The bridge opened to the public in August and is designed for non-motorized use, with restricted access intended to prevent vehicles from entering.
RCMP said the drivers were issued tickets for driving without due care, failing to obey restricted access, and having tinted windows. Each received fines estimated at about $600.
Both men told police they were attempting to recreate photos they had already seen online, showing their cars positioned on the bridge with the highway underneath visible in the background.
North Vancouver city officials said there was no damage to the new bridge. They also indicated that steps were taken after the incident to reduce the chance of further vehicle access while additional physical barriers are prepared.
According to RCMP, the two vehicles gained access through a cycle-only lane. The city later placed temporary concrete barriers at the location, with new bollards expected to be installed.
City of North Vancouver spokespersons said the measures are intended to address a breach of the bridge’s restricted design and to help ensure the Crosscut Bridge remains safe and accessible for cyclists and pedestrians.
