Bayside Lounge to close after nearly 50 years near Davie and Denman

Bayside Lounge announced it will close its doors at the end of the month after nearly 50 years in Vancouver.

The Story

Bayside Lounge announced it will close its doors at the end of the month, saying the decision comes after nearly 50 years overlooking the busy intersection of Davie and Denman and the view toward English Bay.

The retro cocktail lounge sits in the Best Western Hotel—also known as the Sands—a floor above street level, using the building’s recognizable round corner at 1755 Davie St. for panoramic views of the city below.

In a post on the lounge’s social media, the restaurant wrote: “After 47 years, it’s with heavy hearts that we have to share that Bayside Lounge will close its doors at the end of the month.” The post added, “It honestly doesn't feel real.”

The announcement thanked customers and community members who visited over the years, saying: “We know this news will be deeply felt by our entire Bayside family.” It also said that over the coming weeks the lounge will be sharing memories and celebrating its people while welcoming visitors “back to enjoy Bayside together.”

Reactions on social media included messages of shock and disappointment, with one Instagram user writing, “This is the worst thing to ever happen to the westend. The entire community is heartbroken,” and another saying, “I’m truly heartbroken about Bayside closing,” adding that Bayside “meant so much to me” and was “my first job in Canada.” On Facebook, another commenter wrote, “Got engaged there in 1986 and went for our divorce drinks in 2013!”
