Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts a cooling Metro Vancouver week starting Oct. 5, with overnight lows as low as 6°C Saturday.
The Story
Environment and Climate Change Canada says temperatures in Metro Vancouver are dropping in the forecast for the first full week of October.
On Monday, Oct. 5, ECCC forecasts a high of 16°C in the region, with temperatures up to 20°C inland. As the week progresses, the forecast calls for a chance of showers and overnight temperatures reaching 9°C on Friday.
ECCC also forecasts an overnight low of 6°C on Saturday, which would be the coolest in recent memory. Chloe Katsademas, an ECCC meteorologist, said there was an overnight low of 8.5°C on Sept. 26 and 27, explaining that if the 6°C occurs it would mark the coldest night in that stretch.
Katsademas added that weak ridging could lead to fog in Metro Vancouver at the start of the week. She said, “There will be fog diurnally, plus there has been lots of fog in the Strait of Georgia the last two days. Based on the current pattern, it looks like it will stick around and continue for the next couple of days.”
She also noted that fog and low stratus clouds could increase with possible drizzle, saying the pattern is expected to persist until Thursday. ECCC forecasts periods of drizzle Monday evening into Tuesday morning, followed by showers returning just before the start of the long weekend.
For Thursday, Katsademas said, “The pattern shifts to a more upper trough,” adding that while the northern B.C. coast is more impacted by a possible storm, it is expected to change the flow in the Vancouver area and bring a chance of showers.
ECCC’s monthly climate mean for October is 8.6°C overnight.
