Teck Resources workers at Highland Valley Copper begin strike, operations run at reduced capacity

Teck Resources says workers at its Highland Valley Copper mine began a strike on Saturday and the company is continuing operations at reduced capacity.

The Story

Teck Resources Corp. says workers at its Highland Valley Copper mine began a strike Saturday.

The company says operations are continuing at a reduced capacity, and that the impact on production will depend on how long the job action lasts.

The striking workers are represented by the United Steelworkers.

USW Local 7619 represents about 1,200 workers at Highland Valley Copper.

Teck and the union have both said they are committed to reaching an agreement, with the union previously saying the company’s proposal continued to fall short of members’ expectations while other concession demands remained on the table.
