Indiana owned the opening stretch
The Pacers built the game exactly the way a road team wants to build it: quickly, cleanly and with enough shot-making to quiet the building. Tyrese Haliburton set the tone in the first quarter with three made 3-pointers in a span of 91 seconds, and Indiana paired that burst with steady inside finishing from Ivica Zubac to move in front 33-25 after one.
That control only grew in the second quarter. Haliburton kept scoring off the dribble and in transition, Zubac continued to finish around the rim, and Kelly Oubre Jr. stretched the margin to 52-32 with a 3-pointer at the 7:14 mark. By then Indiana had reached its largest lead of the night, and the game looked ready to turn into a comfortable Pacers win.
Instead, Oklahoma City found a counter before halftime. Jalen Williams started the push, Jared McCain supplied the perimeter punch, and Alex Caruso, Cason Wallace and Aday Mara all chipped in during a 27-9 response. What had been a runaway became a one-possession game by the break, with the Thunder trailing only 61-59.
The game kept changing hands
The third quarter became a test of who could answer last. Jay Huff opened the half with a 3-pointer for Indiana, but Oklahoma City kept walking the score back. Mara's pair of free throws at 7:07 put the Thunder ahead 70-69, their first lead since the opening minutes, and the building finally had a game again rather than a chase.
That advantage did not hold for long, because Indiana still had enough shot-making to push back. Oubre scored twice in the lane, Quenton Jackson attacked for a layup, and Kobe Brown converted a three-point play after Huff's third 3-pointer of the night had already helped keep the Pacers close. Yet every Indiana answer met another Oklahoma City one, and McCain's step-back 3 at 5:08 helped drive the Thunder to an 85-84 edge through three quarters.
The fourth quarter followed the same pattern. Oklahoma City stretched the margin to 94-87 after baskets from Kenrich Williams, Otega Oweh and Brooks Barnhizer, but Indiana did not go away. Rienk Mast drilled a 3 to cut it to one, Brown made free throws to tie and then edge the Pacers ahead, and after Barnhizer restored a two-point Thunder lead in the final minute, Brown answered again with a tying basket with 5.6 seconds left. Regulation ended at 100-100, and Oklahoma City took the extra session 14-12 to finish the rally.
Our take: Oklahoma City survived the part of the game it did not control
The surprising part of this result is not that the Thunder had enough scorers to come back. It is that they won despite getting beaten so thoroughly on the glass. Indiana collected 17 offensive rebounds and held a clear rebounding edge overall, the kind of profile that usually decides a close game. What flipped the math was ball security. The Pacers committed 27 turnovers, and Oklahoma City turned those mistakes into 33 points.
That is the frustration Indiana will carry from this one. A team that led by 20 and took 100 shots still lost because too many possessions ended without a finish. Haliburton's early scoring binge gave the Pacers command, and their work inside created second chances all night, but the Thunder were sharper with the possessions they kept. Oklahoma City shot 47.8 per cent from the field to Indiana's 43.0 and matched the Pacers with 14 made 3-pointers while needing fewer attempts, 39 instead of 47.
Oklahoma City leaves with its own warning signs. A comeback win should not hide how much it gave up in the first half or how vulnerable it looked on the boards. Still, there was real substance to the recovery: McCain hit six 3-pointers before overtime, Mara gave the Thunder needed interior finishing, and the team kept forcing live-ball mistakes even while trailing. In a game with 12 lead changes and only a two-point final margin, that pressure mattered more than the early deficit.
