Kraken’s quick-strike bursts bury Flames in 6-1 loss at Saddledome

Seattle turned two short scoring flurries into a runaway result, beating Calgary 6-1 after striking twice in 32 seconds in the first period and twice in 51 seconds early in the third.

Two bursts put Calgary in chase mode immediately

Jordan Eberle opened the scoring at 9:10 of the first period on a wrist shot from Jared McCann and Vince Dunn, and Seattle barely paused before striking again. Dunn made it 2-0 at 9:42 with a slap shot off feeds from Ryan Winterton and Shane Wright, giving the Kraken a two-goal cushion in a span of 32 seconds.

Calgary kept the game from getting away entirely in the middle frame, but the damage from the opening period deepened in the final half-minute. Gaudreau scored at 19:30 of the first from Kaapo Kakko and Ryker Evans, sending Seattle to the intermission up 3-0 and leaving the Flames to spend the rest of the night trying to recover.

Any hope of a reset disappeared early in the third. Chandler Stephenson pushed the lead to 4-0 at 3:13, with Dunn collecting another point and Joey Daccord picking up an assist, and Matty Beniers followed at 4:04 from McCann. Ryan Strome finally put Calgary on the board at 16:35 from Yegor Sharangovich and Connor Zary, but Kakko answered just 26 seconds later to restore the five-goal margin at 6-1.

Seattle’s leaders filled the scoresheet

The Kraken did not need one dominant scorer because several of their most important players shared the work. McCann finished with three assists, Dunn had a goal and two assists from the blue line, and both Beniers and Kakko scored once and added an assist. Daccord added an unusual extra detail to his night with the secondary helper on Stephenson’s goal.

That balance showed up all over the scoring log. Seattle got goals from Eberle, Dunn, Gaudreau, Stephenson, Beniers and Kakko, a six-scorer spread that left Calgary without a single line to solve. When one push cooled off, another arrived from a different part of the lineup.

The supporting numbers matched the score. Seattle outshot Calgary 32-25, blocked 20 shots to Calgary’s nine and recorded eight takeaways to the Flames’ two. The Kraken also made better use of special teams, going 1-for-5 on the power play while Calgary went 0-for-1. Daccord’s 24 saves and .960 save percentage finished the job behind that skater support.

Our take: Calgary gave itself almost no margin for error

Calgary did win the faceoff battle, 31-29, and delivered 24 hits, but those positives were outweighed by the mistakes that fed Seattle extra chances. The Flames were charged with 18 giveaways and took six penalties for 12 minutes, while the Kraken took only two penalties. Over the course of a 60-minute game, that is a difficult imbalance to survive against a team already finishing cleanly.

The timing of the goals made the night feel even more severe than the final score. Calgary absorbed two goals in 32 seconds in the first period, then two more in 51 seconds early in the third. Even after Strome broke the shutout bid, the response lasted only 26 seconds before Kakko scored again. Brief rallies never had time to become real momentum.

For Seattle, the most encouraging part of the result may be how many different areas looked sharp at once. The Kraken got six goals on 32 shots, 11 assists on those goals, a three-point night from Dunn, a three-assist game from McCann, and steady goaltending from Daccord. For Calgary, the clearest route to improvement starts with cleaner puck management and less time spent killing penalties, because the raw physical effort and slight edge on draws were nowhere near enough to offset the turnovers and the discipline gap.
