Owen Power scored 4:22 into overtime and the Buffalo Sabres completed a rally to defeat the Minnesota Wild 3-2 at KeyBank Center on Tuesday. The win improved Buffalo’s record to 2-1-0, while Minnesota fell to 2-0-1.

Power’s game-winner came after he received a pass from Jiri Kulich in the slot. Power then fired a wrist shot inside the left post to end the contest in extra time.

Buffalo also received goals from Noah Ostlund and Tage Thompson. Colten Ellis made 18 saves for the Sabres, while Minnesota was paced by Jesper Wallstedt, who stopped 25 shots.

Minnesota struck first on the power play at 13:53 of the second period. Danila Yurov scored by one-timing a pass from Jared Spurgeon from the right circle, beating Ellis short side.

The Wild extended the lead to 2-0 at 15:38 of the second period. Maxim Shabanov scored after Quinn Hughes carried the puck up the ice to the left circle and fed it to Shabanov, who snapped it past Ellis.

Buffalo responded late in the third period. Ostlund cut the deficit to 2-1 at 3:55 of the third, and the tying goal arrived at 9:38 when Thompson beat Wallstedt with a quick stick-side shot after Peyton Krebs set him up in the slot.

The equalizer included a sequence that featured an unusual change of destination: Power’s intended pass to Ostlund on the back door redirected off the skate of Wild forward Blake Coleman and off Ostlund’s leg into the net during the overtime winner. The play ended with Power credited with the goal at 4:22.

Nick Foligno left the game late in the first period with an upper-body injury and did not return, according to the game report. The Sabres and Wild will next continue their schedules as they work around the impact of that injury.

With the result, Buffalo earned its third goal of the night beyond regulation after falling behind twice in the second period, while Minnesota surrendered the lead after reaching 2-0. The overtime finish highlighted a decisive moment built from Buffalo’s transitional plays and Power’s quick release to close the game at KeyBank Center.
