Vancouver Police say a 44-year-old Alberta man was arrested after a Code 3 vehicle pursuit that ended near Waterfront Station.
The Story
Vancouver Police say officers initiated a Code 3 pursuit after they spotted a parked BMW near East Hastings and Dunlevy and then observed it speed away during a welfare check.
In a release, the Vancouver Police Department said the incident began around 3 p.m. after police noticed a distraught female passenger in the BMW.
VPD said that, concerned for the passenger’s safety and well-being, officers activated emergency lights and sirens to conduct the welfare check, after which the vehicle immediately sped away.
Because police perceived a threat to the passenger, a pursuit was authorized, and VPD said multiple police vehicles were involved as the BMW weaved through traffic into downtown Vancouver.
The pursuit ended somewhere near Waterfront Station, where VPD said officers used a vehicle interdiction tactic and carried out a “high-risk takedown.”
VPD said the driver, a 44-year-old man from Alberta, was arrested.
The department said the man faces possible charges of forcible confinement, drug possession, and dangerous driving.
VPD said the female passenger, who appeared visibly distraught, is cooperating with investigators and that the file remains under investigation.
