Flair Airlines says it will begin the first-ever non-stop flight between Vancouver and Guanajuato, with a ribbon-cutting planned at YVR this Saturday.

Flair Airlines is set to launch what it describes as the first-ever non-stop flight between Vancouver and Guanajuato, Mexico, departing from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and arriving in Guanajuato (BJX) in Central Mexico.
The route is intended to make it easier for travellers to reach destinations in the Bajío region, including Guanajuato, León and San Miguel de Allende.
Flair says the Bajío region is known for its colonial history, and points to a nearby attraction in Silao: the Shrine of Christ the King on Cerro del Cubilete, which features a 20-metre bronze statue of Jesus.
The airline says the State of Guanajuato has a population of just over six million, while León is the largest municipality with just under two million people.
Flair also says the launch is expected to create “new opportunities for tourism, business and connections between families and communities in Canada and Mexico,” and it will hold a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Vancouver flight at YVR this Saturday, the official launch day.
Air Canada has also announced a year-round, direct, nonstop service between YVR and Guangzhou, China, described as a major centre for manufacturing and high-tech industries. The Guangzhou route is set to launch with flights between YVR and Guangzhou (CAN), near Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau.
