Netflix announced that its three-part docuseries The One About Matthew Perry will premiere on Netflix on Oct. 27.
The series is described as an intimate documentary taking a closer look at the American-Canadian actor’s life and career, featuring “some of the people who knew him best.”
Perry died at age 54 at his Los Angeles home on Oct. 28, 2023. The L.A. County Medical Examiner said he died from the “acute effects of ketamine” and drowning.
Netflix said the documentary will feature never-before-heard testimonies from Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick, along with “candid new details” from his lifelong best friends. It will also include never-seen-before videos from the Perry family’s private archive.
The docuseries is helmed by Emmy Award-winning director Mary Robertson.
Netflix said Robertson’s work will include appearances from Kevin Pollak, Nate Torrence, and Jonathan Lynn, but that none of Perry’s Friends co-stars are set to appear.
Netflix’s announcement drew backlash from some social media users who questioned the timing, with one Reddit user writing that “three years may be too soon” to revisit Perry’s death.
Others said they plan to watch, including an X user who wrote: “This might be the first documentary to make me emotional.”
