A Canada Pulse Insights poll conducted in Surrey ahead of Saturday’s mayoral vote shows Brenda Locke with the support of 33% of decided voters.
The Story
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke is entering Saturday’s election day with a lead over her mayoral challengers, according to a new Canada Pulse Insights poll.
The survey found Locke has the support of 33% of decided voters, placing her 17 percentage points ahead of her main competitors, former mayor Doug McCallum and Linda Annis, who are tied at 16% each. The poll also listed Mike Starchuk of Imagine Surrey at 12%, Troy Van-Vliet of SURREY NOW at 10%, and Honveer Singh Randhawa of the Conservative Electors Association at 8%.
While 53% of residents said they want a new mayor, 47% said Locke deserves re-election. Job performance ratings were also positive for Locke: 63% of respondents said she is doing a good job, while 37% gave her a negative rating.
The poll suggests the opposition remains divided rather than consolidating behind a single alternative candidate, with 10% of voters remaining undecided. Canada Pulse Insights CEO John Wright said the field’s lack of a single challenger is contributing to Locke’s position.
The survey of 483 Surrey adults was conducted between Sept. 28 and Oct. 9, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
Asked about the direction of the city, 56% of respondents said Surrey is headed in the right direction, while 44% said it is on the wrong track.
