Immigration Minister Lena Diab says Ottawa will add Express Entry points for certain high-wage jobs and reduce related employer paperwork starting Nov. 3.
The Story
Ottawa says it is adding new Express Entry points for permanent residency applicants tied to “high-wage” work, along with changes that would remove the need for employers to include certain Labour Market Impact Assessment paperwork for qualifying jobs.
The plan, announced by Immigration Minister Lena Diab in Kitchener, Ont., includes a first set of new points for people with Canadian work experience and for applicants with a job offer in a high-wage field such as engineering.
Ottawa defines a high-wage job as work with pay that is at least 1.3 times the median wage, with more points available as the wage increases.
The government also said it is introducing a temporary policy to remove the requirement that an employer include a Labour Market Impact Assessment on a qualifying job eligible for the new express entry points.
The changes are set to take effect on Nov. 3.
