Anna Cathcart, a Richmond-born actress from XO, Kitty, says BC Children’s Hospital helped her learn tools to manage anxiety during her childhood treatment.
The Story
Richmond-born actress Anna Cathcart returned to BC Children’s Hospital ahead of World Mental Health Day to speak about the importance of support and understanding for people living with mental health challenges.
Ahead of Sunday, Oct. 10, Cathcart said that as a child she came to the hospital for “several tests for physical symptoms” and was later connected to “an incredible psychologist through the hospital” who helped her learn tools to deal with her anxiety. She said those tools are “still use[d] today.”
Cathcart, who attended R.A. McMath, visited recently to tour the oncology unit and the Healthy Minds Centre. During her visit, she shared her personal connections to the hospital and spent time with patients and families, including youth receiving care.
Cathcart said she wanted to visit BC Children’s Hospital because she grew up in Richmond and Vancouver and because many people in her life, “including myself,” have been “positively impacted by this hospital.” She added that she wanted to see the work being done “all on site,” make new friends, and meet inspiring kids.
She also said she saw “a lot of joy and love in these rooms” and described the people who work there as “so incredible,” calling it “a really special place.”
