B.C. Finance Minister Brenda Bailey says she is cancer-free and will not run again for the Oct. 24 election in Vancouver-South Granville.

B.C. Finance Minister Brenda Bailey has announced she will not seek re-election on Oct. 24, ending her candidacy for Vancouver-South Granville, where she was first elected in 2020.
Bailey said she was diagnosed in August with early-stage treatable cancer and underwent surgery. In a statement, she said she is now cancer-free and is regaining her strength.
Bailey said she has received support from friends, family and others since her diagnosis, and expressed gratitude for that help as she prepares for the upcoming provincial campaign.
The minister said she is proud of her work across multiple portfolios, including efforts aimed at creating and protecting jobs and building B.C.’s technology, innovation and life sciences sectors. She also referenced work connected to bringing Web Summit to Vancouver.
Bailey said she will not be seeking re-election, but indicated she plans to be involved in the campaign for the B.C. NDP during the election period.
Her announcement follows other recent decisions by members of David Eby’s governing party to step back from running again, with additional ministers having previously said they would not seek another term.
