North Vancouver RCMP investigating assaults against Grindr users after three reported incidents

North Vancouver RCMP says it is investigating reports of assaults involving people who agreed to meet after communicating through the Grindr app.

The Story

North Vancouver RCMP says it is investigating a series of alleged assaults that targeted people after they communicated with someone through the Grindr app and agreed to meet in person.

Police said they received two reports on Aug. 27 and Aug. 31. In both cases, Mounties said victims reported they were communicating with an individual through Grindr and agreed to meet. Upon arrival, police said both victims were confronted by groups of young people, and were assaulted or threatened, with both incidents also involving damage to the victims’ vehicles.

RCMP investigators said they reviewed CCTV footage and identified a third assault that had not been reported to police. Police said this incident took place Aug. 29 near Ross Road Elementary School.

RCMP said it appears the three attacks are connected. Cst. Paul Reece said the force is pursuing all available avenues to identify those responsible and encouraged anyone with information or video that could assist the investigation to contact police.

Police are asking for relevant dash cam or CCTV footage from Aug. 27 in the Eldon Park area, Aug. 29 near Ross Road Elementary School, and Aug. 31 at Lynn Valley Elementary School.

Anyone with information or video is asked to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
