Pickup truck arrested after crash near Renfrew St and East 22nd Ave splits in half and catches fire

Vancouver police say a grey GMC Sierra crashed near Renfrew Street and East 22nd Avenue early Friday, splitting in half and bursting into flames, and the 34-year-old driver was arrested at hospital.

The Story

Vancouver Police say a pickup truck crashed into a building near Renfrew Street and East 22nd Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Friday, splitting in half before erupting into flames.

Police said the grey GMC Sierra was travelling southbound when it struck another vehicle, then left the roadway and hit a nearby nursing home.

When officers arrived, the pickup truck was completely engulfed in flames. The pickup driver and its passenger were taken to hospital.

VPD said there were no injuries to people in the other vehicle or in the building.

Police arrested the 34-year-old driver after an assessment at hospital. He faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and was served with a Notice of Driving Prohibition for 90 days.

VPD said the investigation is ongoing and that officers have seized the burned GMC Sierra. Anyone with information is asked to contact the VPD Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.
