Unifor Local 333-BC says it will resume an overtime ban in Greater Victoria if a new collective agreement is not reached by Oct. 5, 2026.
The Story
Unifor Local 333-BC released a statement Friday calling on the government to help reach what it described as a fair deal by Oct. 5 or the union says it will resume an overtime ban in Greater Victoria.
In the statement, Unifor National President Lana Payne said transit workers in Victoria want a deal and highlighted what she described as the need for public investment, adding that BC Transit has asked for more time and received it.
The union said it and BC Transit met Sept. 28 and 29 with a mediator and resolved some of Local 333-BC’s concerns, but it said “significant hurdles remain” before an agreement can be reached.
Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle said mediation moved things forward but that the parties are “not there yet,” adding that riders, workers and the community depend on a transit system that is properly funded and fairly staffed.
BC Transit asked Local 333-BC to pause the overtime ban until Oct. 5 so the remaining issues could be resolved, and the union said the initial overtime ban began on Sept. 1.
Unifor Local 333-BC President Stephan Bains said members are working to keep Greater Victoria moving, and said a fair deal is still within reach by Oct. 5 but will require commitment from BC Transit and public funding.
