The B.C. NDP has completed its candidate slate for Richmond-Steveston and Richmond-Queensborough ahead of the Oct. 24 provincial election.
The Story
The B.C. NDP says it has filled out its Richmond-area candidate roster, adding candidates in Richmond-Steveston and Richmond-Queensborough, according to Elections BC.
In Richmond-Steveston, the NDP candidate is Bruce Kong, who will face off against Gordon Zhang.
In Richmond-Queensborough, Dhar Grewal is the NDP candidate, and he will run against incumbent MLA Steve Kooner of the B.C. Conservatives.
In Richmond Centre, former B.C. Conservative MLA Hon Chan said he will not be seeking office. Chan has been sitting as an independent MLA since being charged for assault in March.
Chan said he had been considering running until last week, when he announced in a social media statement that his motivation to consider a candidacy was to defeat the NDP.
The B.C. Conservatives have since named Sasha Peter as their candidate in Richmond Centre.
The provincial election is set for Saturday, Oct. 24, one week after the municipal election.
